DCJ to don a new look
The Department of Communication and Journalism of the University of Kerala is all set for a new look. The faculty section of the department has been renovated in keeping with the times and will be inaugurated on 17th August by the Kerala University Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. J. Prabhash.
The modified office complex now includes an air conditioned theatre, faculty rooms as well as a dining-cum-rest room. The rest room will have dining space for the department faculty and the research scholars. The theatre will have a seating capacity of 60-75 people and will be used for screening films, documentaries and other curriculum based videos. As part of the inauguration, eighteen documentaries produced by the ΙΙ year students will be screened here..

The inaugural function will also felicitate three prominent alumni of this department – Dr.Babu Gopalakrishnan, Biju Mathew and K.A.Beena. Dr.Babu was recently appointed as the director of C-DIT. The radio documentary by Biju Mathew, programme executive at All India Radio has received recognition from the United Nations Economic and Social Council for Asia Pacific. The documentary is currently being translated into several languages and will be aired in regional radio channels across the world. Ms.Beena, News Editor at Doordarshan Trivandrum recently won a national award for her radio documentary script.
The expenditure for the renovation was met from fund granted to the department by the state government. The rest of the allocated money will go towards refurbishing the media lab and the HOD’s room. Also in the offing is a plan for a media museum adjacent to the office. The museum will display equipment like the Epidiascope used for projection of printed material in the olden days, an old model projector, VHS tapes which are no more in use, tape recorders and several other communication gadgets of bygone days.
